Oliver undertook his articles, qualified, and practiced as an Advocate at Dickinson Cruickshank where he worked closely with Rob Long in the firm’s Dispute Resolution Department, specialising in all aspects of commercial and chancery litigation, commercial disputes and plaintiff and defendant personal injury.

Between March 2007 and March 2012, Oliver worked as a civil advocate within H.M. Attorney General’s Chambers where he gathered a wealth of valuable experience advising and working with Isle of Man Government Departments, Statutory Boards and Offices and representing public authorities in legal proceedings including doleance (judicial review), in the High Court, the Appeal Division, and before a variety of other tribunals including employment, planning, health and safety and immigration tribunals.

Oliver, who is a Next Generation lawyer in the 2017 ed. of the Legal 500, is described as ‘hardworking’ and as having ‘a very good understanding of the local legal system and a pragmatic approach’. Whilst the 2017 ed. of Chambers & Partners identifies Oliver as “Up and Coming”, stating that he “is praised by clients for being “very well informed and commercially astute.

Whilst Oliver’s current dispute resolution case-load does include some corporate / commercial instructions the bulk of his instructions are more public law and private client oriented; the latter covering trusts / inheritance disputes, employment, immigration, property, negligence / breach of contract and coronial inquests. Oliver works closely with the Company’s Private Client team headed by Mark Humphrey.
